We did an afternoon and night dive with big island divers. Mahalo to everyone who made a great night dive and kept us safe. The images and video will make your vacation scrapbook the envy of your dive buddies. Don't come all the way to Kona to do a once-in-a-lifetime dive and not get her pro-quality shots.
#Manta ray dive big island professional
Martina from Manta Advocacy Group was onboard sharing her wisdom and knowledge of Mantas and providing high-quality professional photo and video. The entire crew represents Big Island Divers very well. A man who truly loves his job and his customers. While all the crew was great I must say that Leau's enthusiasm, friendliness and customer service focus was beyond what we would ever expect.

Leau kept an eye on me and when down to 1000 psi guided me back to the boat waiting just a short swim away. The surge was quite a work out for me causing me to use my air quicker than the rest of the group. Our Divemaster, Leau (pronounced Lay-Ow) checked on me and the rest of the group continually to make sure we were comfortable and had enough air to complete the dive. Once in the water we found that there was a lot of surge that night.even being over-weighted we had to cling to boulders to keep from being tossed about. Our boat captain did a great job getting us to the dive site and we were lucky enough to spot some whales along the way. Each crew member showed an appreciation for the Manta Rays, the customers and the ocean. The entire crew was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They are focused on responsible interaction and viewing of the Manta Rays. Big Island Divers is an approved "Green List" member for the Manta Ray Night Dives based on criteria designed by Manta Advocacy Group. We were planning to go with a different company but based on recommendations from our host Garry at Sugar Cottage on Papa Bay we chose Big Island Divers.we are glad we did. My wife and I came to the Big Island to do some diving and of course had the Manta Ray Night Dive on our list of must do's. As I said, I dove with these folks in 2014 & something tells me that this is going to be a regular thing in my future. Hot chocolate awaited us after our time in the water. It was a great night to mantas, we spotted 15 of them. There was a wicked surge that night, but he kept us all on the right path.

Dive master Dillon told us the plan for our dive. Both she & I felt very comfortable with her experience. Snorkel master Neao presented us with a wealth of information on the manta rays. He also displayed great showmanship in spinning a tangelo and an orange using the stream from an air cylinder.

Safety was once again first as Captain Mikey B conducted a thorough briefing about the boat. This is by far the my favorite dive in the world. Friday night my wife & I did the manta ray dive. It was amazing how she could spot even the smallest creatures down there. Dive master Corrine briefed us on the site, then proceeded to lead us underwater, all the while pointing out interesting things below the waves. After a thorough safety briefing by Captain Lex, we headed south toward the Captain Cook area. This year, I signed up for the long range dive. I first came here in April 2014 on my first visit to the Big Island and was impressed with the experience.
